Burning xbox 360 backups with ImgBurn
Posted on February 19th, 2007 at 11:03 am by Jason@TeamXmods

Imgburn is very similar to DVDdecrypter but for xbox 360 backups I think ImgBurn is better. ImgBurn and CloneCd are the best programs available for burning xbox360 backups. If you dont have ImgBurn you can Download it Here. “XboxBackupCreator” and “Schtrom360Xtract” are also great and recommended for people with Samsung SH-D162C keron flashed drives.

If your just burning .iso .dvd files use ImgBurn. It has all the features you need built in and works extraordinarily well. Follow these steps exactly and you wont waste any of your expensive dvd+r dl discs.

Before you do anything Check and See if you have your booktype on your burner set to Dvd-rom. Find a Dvd DL Burner (some drives come with booktype set already).

1. Open .dvd file in a text editor.

2. Copy layerbreak.

3. Open ImgBurn.

4. Goto Tools -> Settings…

5. Goto the Write tab.

6. Change Layer Break to User Specified and paste the layerbreak in the Sectors in L0: box.

7. Save the settings and delete the LayerBreak=… line from your .dvd file and then save.

Note!!! deleting layerbreak is no longer required(most people can skip this).

8. Return to ImgBurn and click the Open icon. Select your .dvd file. Make sure verify is on! (optional)

Note!!! If verify is selected it will take a lot longer to finish. Only use verify for troubleshooting.

9. Select your dvd burner. (Ensure booktype is set to DVD-ROM!).

10. Change write speed to 2x/2.4x.

11. Insert DVD+R DL disc and burn! burn write

This guy is the real deal! If he says it, it’s got to be true. The first time I tried IMG Burn I got a “power calibration” error. Tried it with Jason’s directions and it worked like a charm! Thanks broseph!

will soon test my first disc ..
just curious ..
why do I need to copy the Layerbreak and then delete it from the dvd file?
as far as I can tell Imgburn sets this up ok itself..

Comment by Paka — August 6, 2007 @ 2:03 pm

Your right .DVD files don’t even need the layer break edited.
Just burn .dvd files with imgburn and your good to go.

Encase its not a .dvd file that is how its done though. :)

Comment by Jason@Teamxbox — August 20, 2007 @ 9:39 pm

Works like a charm, thanks mate

Is anything else required to burn Xbox 360 games to DVD-R’s?

Comment by Unknown — April 27, 2008 @ 4:27 pm

You need DVD +R DL discs if your trying to burn xbox 360 backups.

Comment by Anonymous — September 14, 2008 @ 1:30 pm

What if your iso file is under 4GB? I have an iso that I am trying to back up and it is less than 4GB. ImgBurn won’t let me burn it because I can’t set the layer break to 1913760.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

Comment by Javier — October 14, 2008 @ 4:50 pm

I use Verbatim, even tho they aren’t as good as they used to be.

Try and get Made in Singapore(MIS).

Great guide!

Just to make sure before I try this out on my expensive Verbatim.

I still need to copy the layer break into IMGburn and deleting the layer break from the .dvd file is not necessary?

Comment by Nexus — November 18, 2008 @ 4:22 pm

@ Nexus

Just copy the layer break and put it into img burn as directed. You don’t need to delete it, but if you do its still ok.

Cheers*

Comment by Jason@TeamXmods — November 18, 2008 @ 4:46 pm

So I’m burning a backup right now and choose 2x write speed but actual write rate is 4x.

The Verbatims I use are from Singapore and minimum write speed is 4x.

Could this be a problem?

Comment by Nexus — November 20, 2008 @ 1:52 pm

.Im using memorex dvd+r dl discs that I bought from my local staples store cause no one carries verbatim discs around here anymore.Im only a noob to the 360 .As those discs are what my friends use for backups and never once get a single coaster.I always use imgburn 2.4.2.0 for dvd discs I just cant figure it out for fhe 360. I recently bought a game and have backed up it..but after following these steps exactly, checking and setting all the settings like it shows,. imgburn just hangs, wont even start to write and i dont get it .maybe im missing something.any help would be appreciated.if someone gets bored n could take the time..its e dogg e@yahoo.com..

Comment by edogge — November 30, 2008 @ 9:10 pm

edit..
my problem is setting the booktype to dvd-rom. The dvd burner im using is a Hp DVD 640 c dl drive. when i go to change the booktype in imgburn. I can only change on the BenQ tab for some reason. the error i get is DeviceIoControl (FSCTL_LOCK_VOLUME)Failed! Unable to lock volume for exclusive access reason access is denied…says hint, youve got another program running thats using the drive…close it then click try again…but I dont so thats whats baffling me.

Comment by edogge — November 30, 2008 @ 9:23 pm

I have followed these steps just didint set the dvd layer break as its in the.dvd file, also used verify everything shows it went fine, will i be ok to play that game online

Comment by Paul — January 12, 2009 @ 2:32 pm

Ive got a .iso file and wondered how you get the layer break info from it.

Or am i correct in saying you don’t need it as it’ll already be embedded within?

Please help, i’ve already made a coaster using nero 7 and don’t want to waste any more of my expensive DL media.

Best regards

Steve

Comment by Steve — February 10, 2009 @ 4:40 pm

@Steve

layer break=1913760 for xbox360 games(all my games have always had the same layer break).

You still need to setup imgburn with the “layer break” to avoid additional coasters.

Comment by Jason@TeamXmods — February 10, 2009 @ 4:54 pm

hey, i didnt have a .dvd file that came with the download, can i still just burn the iso without any problems?

Comment by Matt — February 15, 2009 @ 7:16 pm

when i open IMGBURNER and upload the game file in there to burn am i looking for the ISO file or .DVD file because when i used another program called xbox360 cookies game burner it uses the ISO file to burn the game. please help me with an answer my email adress is houssam.abiissa@gmail.com
i’ve already wasted 16 cd+rdls and they quite expensisve so again please help on my email as it is linked to my iphone and i could check it right away.

Comment by houssam — April 4, 2009 @ 9:25 pm

^^ idiot. If you would have followed the directions that were given in THIS tutorial, instead of some OTHER tutorial, than maybe you’d be 10+ disks richer. You open the .dvd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment by Bryan Collins — April 17, 2009 @ 2:53 am

Wicked guide, followed it to the letter but something isn’t working….i’ve extracted the 360 files from my original game using schtrom ver4.0, follow the guide, disc burns but wont play on 360….xbox system has been flashed with ixtreme 5.1 firmware….i’m a bit new to this but just cant see why my xbox wont play the disc??? any clues???

Comment by Topbuzz — May 8, 2009 @ 5:02 am

Youre telling to do way to many unnecesary things

Open imgburn, open .dvd file ,set to x4 (for verbatim x8) and burn, that is all, i burned over 30 dvds. layer break is set automaticly from dvd file

For those of you with no .DVD file just a ISO you can use agbx360 (just google it) to create a DVD file and patch invalid security sectors etc.

Btw typing in the layerbreak in imgburn is unncesary, simply click burn an image choose the DVD file mark the verify box set speed and click burn.

hi im kinda new do you have to set the booktype or can you leave it?

Comment by yeti1992 — July 15, 2009 @ 2:48 pm

I just left my booktype, layerbreak etc alone , just put a dl disc click burn image select the .DVD file (make sure the DVD and the ISO are in the same folder) tick verify and burn.

Oh and when using agbx 360 set autofix to level 3 this will fix any problems with the disc.

Just to add one more note, for those of you who keep getting write errors with IMGBURN the problem is most likely your media. I started using MEMOREX to begin but constantly got the write error switched to Verbatim DVD+R DL and have not burned a coaster out of 11 disk

Comment by Spcnicholas1 — August 2, 2009 @ 7:40 pm

one more suggestion if u want cheaper dvd+r dl use the bear brand that u can but in cd r king ive tried it and it’s working great and philips brand cost around 60 buks….

This is very helpful but I am still sort of confused. When I extracted a RAR I get both a .dvd file and a .iso .

From my understanding I do not open the ISO to burn, just the .dvd which is only a 1kb file. Does the .dvd file somehow burn the iso file since its in the same folder and since it references its name in the txt file?

for those who have problems in “PLAY DVD”, please check if the game is in Wave 3/Wave 4 if it is on Wave 3 make sure your ixtreme is updated to 1.51 or 1.6 now if it is on Wave 4 you can play it only on Hitachi Drive with 1.51 ixtreme, for others you need the 1.6 ixtreme and a disc that contains the “one shot boot”
