HOW TO BURN Wii BACKUPS ON DVD MEDIA

To help clear up some confusion when burning wii games from other guides here is a detailed step-by-step tutorial. To play any backups you must have a modchip installed. There is no softmod out yet and there will most likely never be one.

1) EXTRACT THE IMAGE

First thing to do after you completed your game download is extract the image by double clicking the *.r00 file in your torrents folder.

http://www.teamxmods.com/images/tuts/wii_tut_01.jpg

If you got your file associations right, winrar - or your personal favorite unrar program - will open.

http://www.teamxmods.com/images/tuts/wii_tut_02.jpg

Now click “extract to” and specify the folder where you want your image to be. Keep in mind that the most wii images are about 4.7GB in size and that you need that same amount of space on your windows partition if you’re extracting from one partition to the other.

http://www.teamxmods.com/images/tuts/wii_tut_03.jpg

Press “OK” to start the extraction. It’ll take 10 or more minutes, as always patience is a virtue.

http://www.teamxmods.com/images/tuts/wii_tut_04.jpg

After the process you’re done extracting your image.

If the extracted file is an *.iso, skip the next part and see part 3. If your extracted file is a raw *.wii, *.wod or *.god file keep reading the next part.

2) UNSCRAMBLE THE RAW IMAGE

NOTE!!! (most people can skip this step)(this is only if you need to convert .wii file into a .iso etc.)

Download unscrambler 04 from TEAMXMODS and extract it. copy the file “unscrambler.exe” into the very folder you keep your raw image in.

http://www.teamxmods.com/images/tuts/wii_tut_05.jpg

Then left-click your Windows start button in the lower left corner of your screen and click “Run”. A window opens, type ‘command’.

http://www.teamxmods.com/images/tuts/wii_tut_06.jpg

Navigate to the folder containing your raw image and “unscrambler.exe”. In that folder, type

‘unscrambler.exe raw-image.wii “image.iso”‘

replacing raw-image.wii with the filename of your raw image and image.iso with any name you want your new *.iso to have.

http://www.teamxmods.com/images/tuts/wii_tut_07.jpg

Again this process takes some time, wait for the message “image successfully unscrambled” and close the window by typing “exit”. Now the desired *.iso should be in the same folder.

3) BURN THE IMAGEburn

You can burn the *.iso with your favorite DVD-burner program. I am using Nero Burning Rom in this example; however, I prefer the free “imgburn” program because its simple and powerfull. I also recommend the use of verbatim dvd-r.

Open Nero and go to “File” > “Open” or press Ctrl+O.

http://www.teamxmods.com/images/tuts/wii_tut_08.jpg

Navigate to your *.iso and click “Open”.

http://www.teamxmods.com/images/tuts/wii_tut_09.jpg

The “Burn Compilation” dialog opens. Set the write speed to 4x, if you run into any problems (disc write- or read-errors) if you can try 2x to get the best results. Now press “Burn” to start the burn process.

http://www.teamxmods.com/images/tuts/wii_tut_10.jpg

Burning at slow speed takes longer, but you are probably aware of that by now.

http://www.teamxmods.com/images/tuts/wii_tut_11.jpg

http://www.teamxmods.com/images/tuts/wii_tut_12.jpg

Wait for “Burn process complete”, click “OK” and throw the DVD into your Wii. You should see the Game’s logo in the upper left corner of your TV screen.

CONGRATULATIONS, YOU JUST BURNED YOUR FIRST Wii GAME!

Don’t delete the extracted and/or unscrambled image right away, test if the game really runs before you have to start all over again. Enjoy

I get unscrambler.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file as an error message in DOS. What do I do?

Comment by A. T. — April 26, 2007 @ 4:42 pm

Download unscrambler 0.4: http://www.ingenieria-inversa.cl/files/unsc04.rar

Extract it and copy the unscrambler.exe to the same directory your .wod -file is.

Go to “Start -> Run” and type “cmd” (without the quotes) to the box and press OK.

Type the drive letter where your .wod -file is, for example “E:” (without quotes)

Then type “cd folder\where\your\wod\is” (without quotes).
Example: cd soft88\wii_stuff\dumps

then you just type “unscrambler name_of_the.wod game.iso” (and again, without quotes).

After the unscrambling is finished, burn the result game.iso to DVD with Nero 7.

why can’t i extract my *.r00 files?? someone help me..plsssssss

it ask me for next volume when i wan to extract…anyone??? plsssss

Comment by blackjack — May 5, 2007 @ 11:46 pm

To Blackjack, :)

Make sure to use the latest winrar version. Use WinRAR and open the first .rar to extract the compressed files. http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

If you receive an error for r00, it means you need it. Make sure you downloaded the torrent completely. A “force re-check” on the torrent would be helpful, and check the comments in the torrent you downloaded.

Comment by Jason@Teamxbox — May 6, 2007 @ 10:11 am

If you are getting ‘insert next volume’ when extracting, that means you do not have all the rar files !!.. you should have a .rar , then a .r00 , then a .r01 , up to the end … if you are missing any you will get that error message from winrar

I am downloading ISO images, and I can’t seem to burn them with Roxio, or PowerISO?! What could I possibly be doing wrong?

Also…should winrar be able to “open” the wii iso file? It gives me an error when I try.

Comment by danny6869 — July 18, 2007 @ 10:47 am

Great run through - was really easy to follow - thank you. However I seem to have a problem recording the .iso file to disc. It is saying that the file is too big for a DVD?? But when I go to look up the file size it states that it is only 4.37GB?

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Thanks very much

Comment by Backchat — July 19, 2007 @ 12:29 pm

I unzipped an “.r00″ file as eplained above. When done the file was had the extension “.img”, should I rename it to “.iso” and burn it with Nero?
I can’t open the “.IMG” file as I usually do with ISO files, as eplained above.

Great program the unscrambler! Although…

The unscrambler gives with me an error after 43 seconds with the comment that there’s a bad edc (527407ea) must be (5ad22ae6)

so i can’t convert it to iso. What does this error means?

How can I solve this?

Comment by elinaire — July 27, 2007 @ 12:31 pm

Very clear step-by-step instructions, for average user. By the Anonymous comment is key point to me, as I always buy low cost DVD-R from Memorex.

I have the Wii Key. I have downloaded a game. It’s in .iso I burn using NERO & ImgBurn. Still not working. I put it in the Wii and nothing happens. Doesn’t read it, I get nothing. Am I skipping a step? Is it the download possibly? ( It’s the Fishing game ) the only one that I could download in a day and a half. All others are taking several days.

Could this be a media problem. I have been trying the different kinds I have lying around the house. The cheapies, the expensive ones. What’s a brand that is proven to work?

Hi I am going mad. I have read the tutorial but is really hit and miss wether it works or not. I have tried many different medias and if it works it works on any media but if not I cant get them working on a Pal chipped Wii. I’m not sure what chip is fitted but I follow all instructions with ISOs and have tried verbatin -r but still nothing on the isos I can’t het working. I beleive the isos are good. Any ideas are appreciated. Cheers

Comment by Chuck — February 9, 2008 @ 4:44 pm

Hi! The tutorial is very good. I follow all the steps. It’s worked only when i download a torrent with a iso file and not with a r00 or a rar file. I use verbatim DVD, I burn an image at 2x and 4x speed and I have a Wiikey. I unzipped my file qith winrar and all goes well. But my wii can’t read the dvd. I don’t know why?

Comment by Touzy — February 27, 2008 @ 7:52 am

Another app you can use is Rawdump 2.0 “how do you burn a .wii file?”

1: Download a program called Rawdump 2.0 (just google it)
2: Run Rawdump 2.0 and select/push “convert raw to .iso”
3:Choose the unpacked game that has a .wii extension, in this case Zelda. Then press Ok.
4: Then you have to choose where to save your new .iso file, just put it anywhere. Then press Ok.
5: Now just wait until the progress is done. When its done just burn the .iso file that was created.

Hi, when I download I get a bunch of rar files, do I have to run winrar for each file? I have read these directions and the comments several times and it seems like I only have to run winrar on the first file. Is this correct? Doing the first file already makes it 4.37GB AAAHHHH!!!

I can’t believe how many friggin retards there are on here. If you can’t extract rar files then maybe you shouldn’t be trying to burn wii games. Get the basics down first before you try something that causes even experienced people some problems….at least read the friggin tutorials (COMPLETELY) before asking a million question about things that are explained IN THE TUTORIAL… Jeez..

(lulz… Jason @ teamxmods)

great tutorial, very specific. However I am extracting an ISO and when I go to burn it, it tells me the DVD is not big enough. Do you know of any solution to this? Is there a specific brand of DVD to use, + or - ?? Should the file be compressed? Is there something in nero we should be checking off to make it fit on the DVD ??

Thanks for your time and assistance.

Great tut, just one issue. I burn them and everything goes fine until I try to play the game. I acts like it’s going to boot up but doesn’t. The picture of the game shows up and the game music plays when I hit the channel. And then when I hit the button to boot the game, it stalls and my wii mote turns off. Any ideas?

First off, I’m no retard! LOL!!! But I’m having problems with my Wii reading my discs!… I’m burning the .iso with imgburn at 4x with a DVD-R and it burns successfully! But when I go to play it in the Wii… it doesn’t even acknowledge the game…. both the Wii and Gamecube discs just spin… looking for something! I loaded the Wiikey update 1.9 as told. What else haven’t I done?

Thank you!
